Creative form

My inspiration for this project came from the “Klein Bottle House” Designed by Mcbride Charles Ryan. I was especially intrigued by the acute angles and the interaction between the colours black and white that gave the building some interesting depths. Another keynote I chose to work with was the deep red-orange colours bursting out of the inside of the building, and made references to “A fire burning from within”. For the actual form I was experimenting with the idea of building it around a body with missing limbs (altering the human body) and chose at the end to neglect the presence of the human arms.

Process

I began my process with a lot of research on the subject “Klein Bottle”. It took me some time but it was important for me to know the meaning of the term before I began designing. Next step was to examine the house and the expressions that it brought to me. The inspiration began to flow and the keynotes to the design began to clear up for me. As usual I made a lot of collage sketching on the computer, both by tearing up the house into pieces and then putting it back together to create new forms but also by taking pictures of folded paper and interact those with my collages. I made experiments with alteration of the human body, and found it interesting to leave out part of the human body. The difficult factor to this assignment was the actual building of the form, but after many failed attempts I finally succeeded by using a lot of modelling cardboard and a glue gun. As a final touch I integrated small red diodes at the bottom of the plexi-glass spikes so the light would then be led out of the raw edges, creating a red halo.
